What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is a type of bodywork (massage) that comes to us from Japan with roots extending back to ancient Chi The basis for Shiatsu is very similar to that of acupuncture and acupresure. Its purpose is to balance the energy (chi) of the body by activating points along the energy channels (meridians). The points are activated by the practitioner's thumbs, palms, elbows, or feet. Passive stretching is also employed to balance the chi.

The potential benefits of Shiatsu are numerous. Rather than just treating symptoms, Shiatsu holistically addresses imbalances by harmonizing the chi of the body. Many people report that the effects of Shiatsu are quite profound and long lasting. Some reported benefits of Shiatsu includes relief form insomnia and fatigue, reduced anxiety and stress, mental calmness and clarity. What seems to be consistently reported, however is an experience of deep relaxation.
