What is Chinese Medicine?

Western science has only recently determined that human beings are complex bio-electric systems; however, this understanding has been the basis of Chinese Medicine practice for several thousand years. The root of this understanding has been the idea that the body contains a vital form of energy called "Qi" (pronounced "chee"). This energy travels throughout the body along well-defined pathways called meridians. Points on the skin along these meridians are energetically connected to specific organs, body structures, and systems. If these energetic connections are disrupted, optimum function is affected, and this results in pain or illness. By manipulating these energetic pathways, it is possible to balance the Qi flow in a particular part of the body or along an entire meridian. Because Qi is fundamental to the proper functioning of the body, and because Chinese Medicine addresses the Qi so dynamically, it can be highly effective in addressing many health conditions.
